Just finished putting the final touches on our plan for Spring Break (Mar 14 – Mar 21) this year. In addition to our always-popular crime scene investigations, we’re also going to be offering a number of workshops on different forensics topics. Hilary has been hard at work putting together some really neat new programs; I can’t wait to see how the beef livers turn out after a couple of weeks in a cage on our roof. (For the forensic entomology workshop, of course!)
The planned schedule is as follows, with each workshop running from 11:00-11:45AM. We may add additional times if these workshops prove to be as popular as we expect them to be.
- Mar 16 – Fingerprints
- Mar 17 – Impression Evidence
- Mar 18 – Forensic Entomology
- Mar 19 – Ballistics
- Mar 20 – Blood Spatter (for older kids only!)
For more information, check out the details here. There are limited spaces in each workshop, so register your kids early.

Beef livers are very appealing to the same bugs that are used to estimate post-mortem interval. You can’t register for the blood spatter session, but we could do something special for you and a few friends if you wanted sometime. Of course, it would have to include a visit to the old “Blood Drying Room” in the basement of our building…
Oh my! My wife and I would love to participate in these classes, but we’re from the USA and don’t have passports yet.
Will you be adding things from the class to the blog, by chance?

Yes, we’ll be adding some stuff from those workshops. Was there a particular topic that you wanted to see us talk about?
Hello, NetChick sent me. Wish I lived closer. Sounds fascinating!

Wow, had no idea the Police Museum existed.
These programs are a great way to hold kids interest and learn at the same time. With the popularity of CSI, NCIS and Law and Order I am sure your program will be a huge success.
We get that a lot; our museum has been here for 23 years but it’s only in the last few years that we’ve finally started to get attention. A big part of that, of course, is just getting the word out. Also, we provide a lot of programs that are more likely to interest people, now.
Our museum isn’t for everyone, since half of our museum is in the old City Morgue and autopsy facilities, but for parents that come with their kids, there’s no shortage of “teachable moments” here.
That sounds cool, even for adults! I have a friend that would jump at the chance to go on a workshop like that!
Netchick sent me over to wish yu good luck with this!
That sounds like a fun week-end. Why do you have to be so far away? Hope you have had your breakfast by now but perhaps not chopped liver:)
Netchick sends her best.

I think I live in the wrong city. My kids would LOVE your museum! Definitely a must-visit when we make it out to Canada’s loveliest coast.
