Filming at the Police Museum

The Vancouver Police Museum has long been a desirable location for film and television crews to shoot.  Since the closure of the morgue facilities in 1980, our building has been host to many well-known television and film productions as well as a location for student film projects and live theatre.

The museum has authentic period spaces within its galleries including an intact autopsy suite.  The museum also offers rentals in the form of law enforcement uniforms and associated accessories.

Some of the many productions we've hosted, or provided props to include: Davinci's Inquest, Smallville, Underworld Evolution, Fantastic Four, Fido, jPod, Kingdom Hospital, Masters of Horror and Dragon Boys.

A daily location fee is charged for all film/video work at the Museum based on an eight hour day. An hourly overtime rate will be charged for filming beyond the eight hours. For some projects a flat fee may be negotiated.

Basic requirements include

  • Filming will be restricted to the hours and areas designated in the agreement and will be supervised by museum staff. Only authorized museum staff may move museum artifacts and displays unless otherwise specified.
  • Producers may not make any changes or alterations to the museum property without the consent of the museum.
  • The museum must be notified in writing of any Special Effects.  No animals are allowed on the site without the prior permission of the museum.
  • All productions must provide proof of liability insurance for personal injury and property damage naming the Vancouver Police Museum as beneficiary.
  • All productions must comply with British Columbia’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Health and Safety Guidelines for the British Columbia Film and Video Production Industry.
  • The museum usually requires a specified credit on any production, a copy of the final production, permission to publicize the film makers’ use of the Museum for promotional purposes.
